Thank you to all of my wonderful, super, amazing clients in 2009! You have all been fantastic to work with and I loved capturing such important moments in your lives ... from the first kiss of a bride and groom, to a newborn baby, to a playful child, to a high school senior, to a family with grown children scattering around the globe. Thank you!
The office will be closed from Friday, December 18, 2009 through Tuesday, January 5, 2010. All calls and emails will be returned after the 5th. I hope you all have a safe and wonderful New Year!
Here is a slideshow of all of my clients in 2009 ...
Enjoy!

Ok, seriously I am for reals going to blog all of the sessions I shot this year that have not been blogged yet! Get ready!! When blogging these past sessions all blog posts will be done in alphabetical order by the client's last name and the post will be just one word that describes the session. Let's get this blogging party started!

This is a big week for Gabe ... he's getting 2 visits from the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny, oh my he's going to be spoiled! On Monday, Steve pulled out one of Gabe's top teeth because it was just barely hanging on. Today I was getting ready to take a picture of him with that 1 missing tooth and just as I had my camera in my hand and was about to call to him to come downstairs he ran to the stairway and said, "Mom, my other tooth just fell out!" He was so excited! He was pacing around while he called everyone. After swishing some salt water and making a bunch of phone calls I got him in front of the camera. Isn't his smile adorable?!

This is world I want to live in ... a world where life is musicals, lol! This is a commercial, but wouldn't that just be fun to have that happen in real life?!
Enjoy!!

Yesterday was beautiful! Sunny, 60 degrees and only a slight breeze ... it was wonderful! I had ordered some clothes for the kids to do a shoot with them before Gabe loses a top tooth (both are really loose) but I told Gabe they were for his 6 year old pictures ... his birthday isn't until May so I will be doing another shoot for his birthday pictures but for we'll just keep that a secret from him for now. ;) We went to my new favorite little spot for a grungy, weedy, fabulous background. The gentleman that owns this property is very nice for letting me wander around and photograph there. I got to hear all about his family history too which was very interesting. His family has owned that property for nearly 100 years ... crazy!
Enjoy!
So, Gabe loves the color green and he loves to wear ties and collared shirts. He's such a funny boy. He was so excited when we opened up the box of clothes and saw what was inside for him. Alison is my girlie girl. Her favorite color is pink and she loves to wear pink dresses and pink shoes. I actually have only gotten her out of that dress to go to bed last night ... she put it back on first thing this morning.
I am going to post the entire session of my kids as a slideshow here. If you want to see the images larger and hear the music I chose to accompany their session just click on the maximize icon on the bottom right of the slideshow viewer to view the slideshow full size.

It looks like Spring has almost sprung ... my crocus in the front yard are just starting to bloom. Yesterday I had a lovely little spot with 3 or 4 blossoms ... that is until a 3 year old with red hair and pretty purple princess dress opened the front door while I was on the phone and went out and picked them ... all of them. :( What can I say? She loves flowers and she was sooooooo proud of herself for picking them. So to make lemonade of lemons I decided I would photograph the biggest bloom just for fun! Even though the color images are really pretty with the white and purple I felt like these were even more cool in a dark, moody black and white. Maybe it was reflective of my mood from the yucky rainy weather yesterday ....
Enjoy!
Rach
- Your lil' 3 year old princess sounds exactly like my 2 year old princess ~ loves to pick everything! Love the moodiness of the black & white. Cool how you can see the crocus reflected into the table (or is that a mirror?) If it's a table, that's ONE shiny table! LOL!

- That is a my table. I have a glass top on it to keep the kids from putting dents in my table with their silverware. It works great for shooting reflections but it is a pain to keep clean and shiny. Little hands leave marks all over it! LOL!

- So gorgeous... I love shots like these. You have inspired me to go buy some flowers and play around.

So, I got this phone call today from my BFF blog stalker letting me know that I suck at updating my blog. Hmmm ... well, ok I do think I've been slacking on adding content to my blog posts but they aren't completely missing. Whateva! LOL! Let's see ... I've had a lot of email from photographers lately asking questions so I'll take a minute to answer some frequently asked questions here.
What camera do you use?
I'm a Canon girl. I shoot with a 5D and have a 20D backup.
When lenses do you use?
I'm a self professed lens junkie and I love L glass. My current lens line up is:
Canon 35 mm f/1.4L
Canon 50 mm f/1.2L
Canon 85 mm f/1.2L
Canon 135 mm f/2L
Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS
Are there any photoshop actions that you use?
First things first .... the first step to creating an image to make sure that your image is properly exposed and well lit. There is no "fix all" for photoshop or action that can make any photo good, you must start with a good image and then enhance it. Now that my PSA is done .... I use Lightroom to process my images and then pull them in to Photoshop for additional retouching if needed. When I do use actions I like Totally Rad Actions but with my own tweaks added.
Can I shadow you?
Because my clients are expecting my complete attention and I expect to give that to them I do not allow other photographers to shadow me.
Do you have any suggestions for some one just starting out?
Practice, practice, practice. Make sure your work is consistently good ... properly exposed, well lit, good composition ... before you begin thinking about turning photography in to a career.
And now on to the second subject in the title .... My Loves! Here's a couple of images of each of my kiddos from this weekend. And these images are just sooooo them. I love Alison in her pink sunglasses and ponytail and the way she holds her hands together when she's cold. And then my Gabe ... he's so funny. I love his big laugh and even his shaggy long hair and chapped lips because he licks them when he's concentrating on something. Oh, I love my babies!
Rach
- I have to agree, I miss seeing your updates and pictures. I always want to see MORE! :) Good to see the kiddos!

- So, I am the stalker BFF, and glad to see you listened to my suggestions! Love the pics and love you!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! We certainly did. We spent the week of Christmas in Sun Valley with my husband's family. It was great fun! We played games, went bowling, ice skating, snowboarding and skiing, and relaxed. We also got to see what 27 inches of snow looks like ... it looks like a LOT of snow! After we got home we spent the rest of our vacation just relaxing and watching movies. It was so nice to really relax. But, now it's back to work and school.
Office hours are changing for 2009 and are as follows:
Monday - Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and by appointment only.
Winter sessions are scheduled for Sundays. Newborn sessions are held on weekdays. Other days may be available upon request. There is an additional $100 fee for Saturday sessions and sessions during holiday weeks/weekends.
I have a bunch of new products and new ideas for 2009 and I am excited to share them will all of my wonderful clients!
Happy 2009!!
And just because I don't want to post without photos here are the images I used of my kids on our Christmas card.
Enjoy!
Joanna Wilcox

My review of Twilight yesterday was a little tough but that's just because I was expecting it to follow the book a little better. I went to see Twilight again last night with a bigger group of girls and we didn't have to wait for 4 hours to see the movie.
IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew not to compare the movie and the book last night so I watched it just as a movie only and it freakin' rocked! I love Edward and Bella and I even like Jacob. Well, I liked the Jacob in the books too but he's no Edward!
GO TEAM EDWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you haven't read the books and want to see the movie then just see the movie first and then read the books!
