Little Miss "H" is one of those children that just makes you laugh and smile at everything she says. She was so full of energy and fun. It was an extremely rare instance where I brought my kids along with to the session and now my daughter asks to play with Miss "H" every day!! I went to high school in Idaho Falls with this adorable girl's momma (thus the reason the kids came with) and Miss "H" looks just like her! Especially those gorgeous blue eyes! It was so great to finally meet up with Miss "H" and her mom because I don't think I've seen her mom since high school ended (we'll just pretend it was only a few short years). It was so great to see you Julie!!!

Photography Class!

It's back by popular demand, the Photography Basics class by Tiffany Hix Photography!

Did you get a digital SLR and now you have no idea what to do with it expect put it on auto and let the camera decide what to do? Well, I'm happy to say that after many requests I will be offering 2 photography classes this spring & summer! Let's get that camera out of auto mode and in to manual so you can control what your camera captures instead of letting the camera control you.

Class sizes will be limited so I can offer the best teaching experience! Classes will include classroom discussion, hands-on outdoor shooting, homework and will be taught on two seperate days so you have time to apply what you learn, show me what you've learned and ask more questions! Registration fees are $100.

Class dates & times:

Thursday, June 16th from 7-9 pm & Saturday, June 18th from 9-11 am
Saturday, July 9th from 2-4 pm & Saturday, July 16th from 2-4 pm

I guess this is the week of children who's names start with the letter M ... and they're all so cute too! I've been photographing this adorable little lady since she was in her momma's tummy and I even photographed her parents wonderful wedding in Jamaica. I just now realized that in my bad blogging days that I never blogged her six month session so this Session Spotlight is going to include images from each of her sessions!

Whimsical Wednesday | 5/4

Today's Whimsical Wednesday is about food. Most of you probably don't know that I also have another blog (that I'm totally behind on too) about the changes I am making with our family's eating habits. If you haven't seen it yet, it's The Hip & Healthy Mom and it's badly in need of updating.

Today ABC announced that it pulled Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution from the May schedule and moved it to Friday nights at 9 PM starting June 3rd. They've basically sent it to the land of death for TV shows. Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution is a show that America, as a whole, needs to see. You should also check out Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Website and sign the petition to get better food in to the schools.

Obesity is an epidemic and it's sweeping our nation. The statistics are heart breaking and staggering. People need to be re-trained how to eat and how they view foods. I think so many people have forgotten what "sometimes" foods are because they've turned in to an "anytime" food. Sugar, in it's many different and often misleading names and forms, is being added to EVERYTHING! It's too much and it's got to stop.

Did you know that one container of Yoplait low fat yogurt has the equivalent of 7 teaspoons of sugar in it? Would you feed your kids 7 teaspoons of sugar all at once? Heck no! But, because of the misleading packaging, labeling and hidden sugars, it's happening every single day. Don't even get me started on Gogurt .... ewwwww!

How can American's have a chance to fight the epidemic when every food manufacturer out there is trying to find cheaper ways to produce processed foods that are loaded with so much sugar and junk? It causes an addiction and it's a hard one to break. We need to take a stand and learn to feed ourselves and our children again. Forget that ridiculous food pyramid that the USDA has for us ... it has only made America fat, sick and unhappy.

The first changes that I've made in regards to feeding my family is I stopped shopping in the grocery aisles. I only go down the aisles for frozen vegetables, natural peanut butter, sugar free jam, condiments (mayo, mustard, reduced sugar ketchup). My kids have had a hard time with not being able to have cereal but we've talked about the whys and hows of it and created a compromise that I will make homemade cereal without the added crap that goes in to boxed cereal. We switched to whole milk ... yes, I said WHOLE milk. If you're going to consume dairy (I don't but my family does) it's far better to consume whole milk products. The fat in the milk is necessary to slow down the absorption of the sugar in the milk. Skim milk and cereal is probably the worst breakfast option to choose. It's basically a bowl full of sugar.

I'm far from perfect in my quest to change my family's habits and we still falter more often than we should. My husband is pretty much dead set against me. I can't change what he eats outside of the home and I know it annoys him to no end that I don't keep chips, cookies, snacks and crap in the house. I'm not willing to sacrifice our well being for something that offers so little satisfaction. Sure, it may taste good on the way down ... but was it worth it? It takes 4 days to break an addiction to sugar. If that stuff is in the house there is no way any of us would get past that 4 days and the vicious cycle would continue.

If you feel like you and your family need to understand what is wrong with America's food system and want Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution to continue airing at a prime time and no the dead zone, please contact ABC and let them know. We, as Americans, need help!

A year and a half ago I had the honor of photographing this beautiful couple's wedding and I was so happy to photograph their adorable newborn when he made his little arrival. Mr. M is just so sweet and tiny. He slept really well for us and is just as cute as can be. Enjoy parenthood Randy & Daisy!

Welcome to the first Throw-Back Thursday! On Thursday's I'll go back to my favorite images of the past that are archived on my current hard drives and randomly select a month and an image. These can be past clients or personal images. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do! It's pretty fun to look back and remember my old favorites.

Whimsical Wednesday | The Voice

Welcome to Whimsical Wednesday! You never know what you're gonna get on Whimsical Wednesday because I'm random and so is Whimsical Wednedsay ... that's fun to say!

So today's installment of Whimsical Wednesday is all about The Voice! Did you watch it on NBC last night?? It was great! I have this this like super duper celebrity crush on Adam Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5, and I call him my boyfriend. I was going to watch The Voice for no other reason than to look at Adam with googlely eyes for an hour ... I was completely entertained and thought the singers were outstanding! Adam was pretty awesome too :) If you didn't see it, they opened the show with all 4 of the coaches, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green performing Crazy. I totally wanted to scream a giddy little teeny bopper scream when Adam started singing (yes, totally crush). And here it is because I totally have to watch it again. Wow! Talk about a stellar performance from all of them!!

OMG, that part where Adam sticks out his tongue ... seriously giddy again!

Jeff Jenkins is my current favorite ... not just because he's on Adam's team ... I got goosebumps on the first note. He also turned all 4 of the judges around with his rendition of Bless This Broken Road

I also really loved Javier Colon's performance of Time after Time ... he also turned all 4 judges heads! Wonderful!

I have 2 more that I just have to share. I could totally just put them all out here because all the singers were amazing but I've got to narrow it down a little.

My next favorite is Vicci Martinez and her cover of Adele's Rolling in the Deep from the 21 album. I loved how they didn't show her face at all until a judge turned around so the audience was participating too. Love it!

And finally, Xenia ... 16 years old ... old soul version of Breakeven. I'm excited to see how she does.

I can't wait for next Tuesday at 8 for The Voice!

I was so lucky to get to photography adorable Miss "M" when she was just a few days old. She was nice and sleepy so we got to do some cute things with her but she was also awake for a little while so we got some lovely images with her eyes open. She was a little dream model and Mom and Dad just adore her! You can see it in the images.

I'm starting a blog schedule so that I can be kept on track and actually blog all of my sessions this year instead of letting them go by sight unseen. Manic Monday will be a simple one word post with a photo of something because Monday's are crazy for me. I spend most of the day in car and when I'm not running kids around I'm cleaning and grocery shopping. So, Monday is simply one word and an image. It could be anything or anyone. Let's get this started, shall we?

It's my Birthday! Gift for You!

See that cute little blonde up there? That's my kindergarten school picture ... that crazy blonde up there with her tongue sticking out ... that's me too. It's my birthday so I have a gift for you!! For one day only, tomorrow 4/15/11 (because I don't want to work today) all Signature Sessions booked will receive 100% of the session fee as a credit towards your portrait order! You will also receive a complimentary mini accordion album with images from your session!! Your session just has to be held in 2011, that's the only catch. So, if you know you want to have portraits done this year but maybe in the fall instead of the spring you can still prepay your session fee and be guaranteed a session when the fall colors are at their peak! Isn't that fun?!

You're thinking ... "Hey, what about the contest? I want my kids entered in that though." Well, no worries! You can still book a full session and pay a reduced entry fee of $25 per child and that full amount will be donated to the Wishing Star Foundation. The only catch on this one is that your session must be held before 5/31/11/ for your children to be eligible for the contest.

So, now you're thinking ... "But I want to just book it now so I don't forget tomorrow." I'm like that too! Well, ok! You can, but you can't call me because my wonderful husband is sending me for a spa day and before that I'm having lunch with my awesome parents. The Treasure Valley's 1st Annual Expressions; A Childhood Portrait Contest!

It's here! I am so excited to share that Kelly from Cherished Images and Tyler from Cazier Designer Portraits and I have been hard at work creating an amazing charity based portrait contest for the Treasure Valley to benefit the Wishing Star Foundation!

The Treasure Valley's 1st Annual Expressions: A Childhood Portrait Contest is a portrait contest for ages 6 months to 12 years old with 4 different age categories. It will run from April 13 through May 31st. Entry fees start at $45 for a 20 minute session for one child, entry in to the contest and a complimentary Facebook image!! Specially priced portrait collections are available exclusively for this event. Half of all entry fees collected will be donated to the Wishing Star Foundation and 100% of all entry fees collected on opening day, April 13th, will be donated to the Wishing Star Foundation.

There will be one Grand Prize Winner along with 4 first place winners, 4 second place winners and 4 third place winners! We are still receiving prize donations so if your business would like to donate, please contact one of the photographers!
